Meta is developing an AI-powered search engine to reduce reliance on Google and Microsoft, according to The Information. The engine aims to generate AI summaries of current events through Meta’s chatbot integrated into Instagram and Facebook, which currently relies on Google and Bing. Meta’s own web crawler has been active, and the company has spent months building a data repository for the chatbot. Meta also signed a multi-year deal with Reuters to use its news articles. Meanwhile, OpenAI is working on SearchGPT, and Perplexity’s AI engine faces lawsuits from publishers.
